The very first thing we do for new patients is to perform a comprehensive exam — and we continue these exams at every hygiene visit from then on! Your initial exam offers us a clear baseline to compare to, allowing us to catch even the tiniest changes in your oral or overall health.
Exams usually include:
- Tooth surface evaluation
- Intraoral camera exam
- Digital x-rays
- Oral cancer screening and soft tissue inspection
- Measurement of gum pockets
- Face, neck, and mouth check
- Sleep apnea evaluation
- Bite and jaw appraisal
- Bruxism (clenching and grinding) diagnosis
Unlike some dental clinics, our office has an easy and relaxed pace. We think this is especially important during exams, and we always spend time listening to your concerns, answering your questions, discussing changes in your health or other lifestyle changes, and explaining all of our findings. If we do happen to find an issue, either oral or systemic, we will either refer you to a medical professional or work with you to come up with a restorative or infection-fighting treatment plan.
